Fundraisers
CRAFTS, GUNS, & COLLECTIBLES SHOW
For the last six years, the Club has
conducted a fundraiser during the Memorial Day weekend. When the Show
started in 2000, it was solely a Gun Show. A few years later, it
was decided to expand the Show to include collectibles as the
number of gun vendors was declining. The 2007 Show will be
expanded further to include crafts in an attempt to maximize the
number of vendors involved in the show. The two-day Show (Friday
and Saturday) is held in the Ruidoso Convention Center. The Show
is the Club's primary fundraiser netting in excess of $10.000
annually. Lion Bryson McCool chairs the Crafts,
Guns, and Collectibles Show.
ANTIQUE SHOW
In the early 1990's, Lion Bill
Allen began negotiations with AmeriWest Shows to co-host an
annual Antiques Show the weekend before Labor Day. Several years
ago, collectibles were added to encourage more vendors to be
involved. The Club's portion of the profit for this successful
fundraiser (normally nets $5000-$7000) comes from three items.
The Club gets to keep 100% of the pre-Show ticket sales, a
percentage of the ticket sales at the door, and the food
concession. On Saturday night, the Ameriwest folks provide a
picnic dinner where they furnish everything but the meat which
each attendee brings and cooks on the barbecue grills. On Sunday
morning, Lion Bill Allen provides his "world renown" cowboy
breakfast for the vendors and Lions. The 2009 Show will be
co-hosted with Arizona Antiques Shows. Lions Bill Allen chairs the Antique Show.
PROJECT KIDSIGHT GOLF TOURNAMENT
In 2007, the Club decided to try a
golf tournament fundraiser to help fund the Club's Kidsight Project.
The tournament occurred 28 April 2007 and was held at the Cree Meadows Golf Course.
The tournament was a 4 person team scramble. Hole
sponsorships were sold for $100 and mulligans w
for $5 each. The entrance fee included green fees, cart, and a
taco bar lunch. The Project Kidsight Golf Tournament, co-Chaired
by Lions Vic Dunham and JB Terrell, was a great success with
over $3000 being raised. This year, the Club will join with the
local Optimists Club and Ruidoso Evening Lions for a Tournament
in September 2008.
